Report to the Jewish Agency Board of Governors

Immigration and Absorption Committee October 2005 Tishrei 5766

Co-Chairs’ Report

October 2005

We are pleased to welcome our friends to the Board of Governors meetings and in particular to the meetings of the Immigration and Absorption Committee.
During the October 2005 meetings we have several tasks before us: to deal with implementation of the strategic objectives that we have decided upon, to decide on the budget cuts that are required of us and to recruit the required resources in order to advance the vital projects that we want to implement.

Although the preparatory work has been done, there are numerous issues that will be decided upon during the Board of Governors meetings. Therefore, your presence and involvement are critical and decisive.

We together with the professional staff, will do everything possible to provide you with the maximum amount of information and to present the central issues before you for your review, discussion and decision.

We especially would like to welcome our new members, including the new chairmen of the subcommittees. We wish them success in their new positions.
At these Board of Governors meetings, we will be lacking the presence and active participation of Mike Rosenberg, the former Director of the Department for Immigration and Absorption, who left his position on October 1 st, 2005. For the past 8 years he has led the Department to impressive achievements and served as a guide and anchor for members of our Committee and the related subcommittees.
We will find a way to make up for the absence of this very competent professional. We will also make every effort to ensure that a new Director is chosen in a reasonable time in order, to lead the Department in the fulfillment of the national mission of increasing the number of olim and ensuring their successful absorption.

Yours sincerely,

Arieh Azoulay                  Daniel Liwerant
