Scout Camp in the South
July 20, 2008 / 17 Tammuz 5768

The summer camp for scouts from Israel’s South opened thanks to the assistance of the Jewish Agency.
The Southern scout leadership has two troupes whom the Jewish Agency is assisting: the Sinai troupe from Sderot and the “Shaked” troupe from Kibbutz Kfar Aza. These troupes are the only ones operating in the Gaza perimeter. Counselors for the older age level, left last week for an advanced camp and erected most of the camp.
Today they will be joined by the younger scouts.

At the camp children will learn how to build structures out of wooden blocks and ropes, to cook for themselves and to prepare the camp for competitions and visits.
The troupes will be visited by VIPs, including the Minister of Education, Professor Yuli Tamir, who will arrive this evening and on Tuesday, Shimon Peres, the President of Israel, will make a special visit to the “Sinai” troupe.
The Jewish Agency is helping by financing 50% of the cost for children from Sderot and the Gaza perimeter.
