Many WUJS students have met while taking part in the program, fallen in love and gotten married. We are starting mini-series of WUJS love stories. In every edition you can find a story of two young people who started a Journey to Israel as singles and ended up as a married couple.
WUJies + WUJies:
ROBYN R. (April 94 session) from Johannesburg, South Africa & MARCELLO D.M, (July 94 session) from Milan, Italy
Robin and Marcello were on overlapping sessions, but they never spoke to each other. It all started on the Galil-Golan tour in August 94. While touring the northern region of Israel on one of the breaks Robin stopped next to Marcello. She was interested in why is he was working instead of enjoying the trip. Marcello, who was obsessed with learning Hebrew, was sitting and listing to new vocabulary words from "Ma'ariv" the Israeli daily newspaper. Instantly Marcello was completely dazzled by Robyn. From that moment on they were inseparable, but there was a problem. Robin's graduation from WUJS was only a week or two away. Robin left when she graduated from WUJS, and went on to a kibbutz to continue learning Hebrew. Marcello continued studying at WUJS and visited her every weekend. They found that, even though they were from totally different parts of in the world, they had very similar Jewish backgrounds, which is one of the things that brought them together. Now, no physical distance can keep them a part !
The rest of the story is history…
