About 10 days ago some one hundred people attended an event at the Arad Community Center. New immigrants from Ethiopia, residing in Arad, offered the Israeli public a glimpse into their unique culture. This was the first time that the Ethiopian Community hosted residents of Arad. The event featured diverse aspects of Ethiopian culture - stage arts such as stand-up comedy, dances and songs; plastic arts - embroidery and basket weaving and a buffet of traditional cuisine at which guest could buy authentic dishes such as injara, dabbo, and kollo.
The Municipal Welfare Department and the Absorption and Volunteers Unit organized this event, which was funded jointly by the Jewish Agency's Partnership 2000 Program, the Ministry of Absorption, the Arad Community Center and the Arad Municipality.
