Dark Memories Laced with Hope: New Jersey Artists Bring 9/11 Photos to Arad

Arad was recently honored by being host to a truly unique photographic exhibition.

By the invitation of the Partnership 2000 of Arad, David Emmons and Paul Lyons, two college professors from Stockton College in New Jersey were invited to Arad. They compiled a fascinating collection of photographs of the tragedy of September 11. David and Paul brought their chilling array of memories to the Arad museum and displayed them for several days. They invited students from the local schools to view the exhibit and ask questions. The children were enthralled by the personal accounts and stories behind the photographs.

The highlight of the exhibit was the grand opening on Thursday evening, January 8. A large crowd of people gathered to view the gripping photographs. The newly elected Mayor of Arad, Dr. Moti Brill, officiated and expressed his warm wishes to the visitors. The event was beautifully catered by the students of the Hotel management school which is situated in the absorption center in Arad. Professor Emmons summed up his feelings about the experience: "I am overwhelmed by the generosity and friendliness of the people of Arad. You are not on the edge, you are at the center. I will be back!" Paul Lyons added: "I love this area of Arad and Beer Sheva, its diverse, friendly and gracious."
