On Jan.19, the George and Jeanne Liss Civilian Emergency Center was officially inaugurated in Arad.
The Committee for Civilian Defense and the Committee of the Emergency Aftercare gathered last week to celebrate the grand opening of the George and Jeanne Liss Civilian Emergency Center of Arad, located in a shelter in the center of town.
After several speeches, the different relevant branches of the Municipality ran an extensive examination and found that Arad is ready and equipped to handle any and all emergencies.
Eli Hoggeg, an officer in the Civilian Defense Unit, commended the municipality for its efficiency and preparation. The city manager of Arad, Mr. Avinoam Wernber, thanked all the Municipality employees who were involved in the organization of the center. He also mentioned that without the financial help of Mr. Liss the city of Arad could not prepare the Center in time so efficiently.
The George and Jeanne Liss Civilian Emergency Center was renovated by the generous contribution of the Federation of North New Jersey, associated with Partnership 2000 of Arad as part of the "Above and Beyond" program. Additional funds were provided by the Ministry of the Interior and the Municipality of Arad - a total of 400,000 shekel.
In peacetime, during the year, the Center serves as a social club for new immigrants as well as veteran citizens of Arad and is run by Hanna Greenberg, the head of immigrants absorption and volunteers in the Arad Municipality.
