NEW SOUTH AFRICAN CHAIRS - MOONYEEN CASTLE AND DOVIE UNTERSLAK
by Mickey Blumberg, Representative of the South African I U A in Israel

Two new Partnership 2000 chairpersons were elected in South Africa - Moonyeen Castle, will now act as chairman of Cape Town and Dovie Unterslak of Durban.

Moonyeen was the former Chairman of the Women's Zionist Organisation of the Western Province, Cape Town being the headquarters and she has now undertaken the new role as Chairman for P2K. Dovie was one of the accompanying adults on the last Holocaust Tour - his wife Cheryl is head of Hebrew and Jewish studies at Crawford College in Durban and she brought five of her pupils on the tour, so Dovie accompanied them as a fully paid up "visitor" to the tour. He was so taken with P2K and the work being done in Beit Shemesh/Adulam that he gladly accepted the appointment as chairman of Durban P2K.

The November Steering Committee meetings are taking place on Nov. 18th and 19th and in order to be au fait with the subjects to be discussed, Moonyeen and Dovie arrived one week in advance and have been living in the P2K rented apartment, going out every day to visit the projects, sites, meet the people involved and study the project cards.

It was very timely that a large solidarity mission from Washington arrived on Thursday 15th to visit P2K projects and in honour of the Washington Jewish Community a new park in the Ramat Beit Shemesh neighbourhood was named "Pentigon Park". It was a great opportunity for the two new SA chairpersons to be introduced to their partners in Washington.

We all look forward to working with Dovie and Moonyeen and hope that soon a Johannesburg chairman will be added to the list.
