Hundreds of Walkers at Hilla Bagalil #3

On Monday 21st April at 10am hundreds of participants stood ready to start the third Hilla Bagalil Walk in Misgav when the heavens opened. Hilla Bagalil - Walking together for Women's Health is held to increase Awareness for the Early Detection of Breast Cancer and is based on Race for the Cure and Race for the Cure Pittsburgh has been a sponsor since the first such Walk. The project organized by the Karmiel - Misgav Women's Forum under the auspices of Partnership 2000, was held during the Misgav Festival and has the support of the Karmiel City Council, Misgav Regional Council, The Associated - Baltimore, the Pittsburgh Federation, JAFI and other sponsors.

After about 10 minutes the skies cleared and people walked in the most glorious weather through the most beautiful scenery in the Galilee. Those who participated were thrilled with the route and the musical attractions along the way.

One of the features of Hilla Bagalil is being able to Walk in honour of a survivor or in memory of someonewho has passed on. Participants walk with notes on their backs. There are also Pink Caps for survivors to wear. These Caps were donated by the Pittsburgh Ladies Hospital Aid Society.

This year we saw a young woman, her bald head covered with a scarf, walking with her husband, who was carrying a baby on his back. On the back carrier they attached a note that read that they were walking in honour of their wife and mother. The woman took a pink cap and put it on her head as they went on their way.

The procceeds of this year's Hilla Bagalil will go towards the establishment of the Hilla Centre - an Image Recovery Centre for Women undergoing treatment which will be established in the Karmiel - Misgav Region in the near future.
