A solidarity mission of 10 families from the Jewish community in Pittsburgh has visited the region of Carmiel-Misgav. The region has a partnership with the Jewish community in Pittsburgh within the "Partnership 2000" Program of the Jewish Agency.
This Mission stayed in Israel for two weeks. The members of the mission have visited various sites in Israel and participated in many events, including a visit to Jerusalem and the Partnership Region. The members of the Mission, parents and children, arrived in our region on December 31, 2003, and visited "The Pittsburgh Walkway" in Givat Ram, Carmiel and planted their trees.
As a gesture of honor to the Jewish community in Pittsburgh, Carmiel has dedicated a tile in the walkway for every born baby in the Jewish community in Pittsburgh. Every tile says the name and date of birth of the baby. The program included a visit in the "Kishorit" village, a tour of the village petting zoo, the organic garden and the toy factory in which the village residents work.
The members of the mission met the director of the Carmiel-Misgav Region from the Jewish Agency, and the representatives of Carmiel and Misgav, who showed them a review of the region focusing on its economic, demographic and social aspects.
In addition, the families took part in drama and theater workshops. They also participated in guided activities in Carmiel and Shorashim with youth and adults from the region. The families were invited to a festive dinner with hosting families from Carmiel and Misgav, and at the end of this enjoyable evening the guests and hosts celebrated the end of the visit and the beginning of the New Year in the bowling center in Carmiel.
