Forty immigrant children completed the Carmiel summer ulpan in mid-August 2004.
Operation of the ulpan was made possible thanks to generous support of the Pittsburgh Jewish community and the Jewish Agency in the framework of Partnership 2000. Support was also provided by the Absorption Department of Carmiel Municipality, the Community Center Network, the Ministry of Absorption and the Strauss-Elite Company, which invited the pupils for an interesting and tasty visit to one of its factories in the Bar-Lev industrial area.
The ulpan curriculum included Hebrew studies combined with experiential activities which allowed the pupils to practice their Hebrew in many different ways: through puppet theatre, singing, dancing, art activities, etc.
The final party was celebrated in an exciting party attended by the children, their parents, and representatives of the financing bodies. The children gave singing, dance and reading performances which they had prepared in the ulpan with the help of their teacher, Genia Zinger, and the staff of counselors who assisted her.
