Hila Bagalil Walk 2008

About 1,000 Walk for Women's Health, Sponsored by Karmiel - Misgav - Pittsburgh

1.7.2005

For the fifth consecutive year, the Hila Bagalil Walk ("Walking Together for Women's Health") took place this year on June 12, 2005, within the framework of the Misgav Music and Nature Festival.

The walk is organized by the Women's Forum of Karmiel, Misgav and Pittsburgh as part of the Partnership 2000 Program sponsored by the Jewish Agency for Israel. "Nitzanim", Misgav's performing dance troupe, performed for the participants at the walk's opening ceremony. The troupe was welcomed by Erez Kriesler, Misgav's mayor, on behalf of the local municipalities; Marcie Lang, the Pittsburgh UJF representative; and Tali Omer, the Walk's chairwoman.

At the finish line, tables with fresh cakes and yogurts awaited the walkers as well as an inflated playground for the younger participants. The children's area was sponsored by "Vered's SportKef", a Misgav based recreation and playground development company.

All of the income earned from the walk will be used to enhance local residents' awareness regarding breast cancer as well as to operate the "Hila Center", which provides support and assistance to women coping with cancer.

The Walk's colorful opening event was held in Australia Park. An area of the Park was set aside for warming up, spinning, and aerobics. The activities were sponsored by "Shape", a health center and spa located in Karmiel. After participants increased their heart rates, it was onto the walk.

The course was divided into a 3 Km (1.86 mi) route and a 8 Km (5 mi) route, within the green expanse of the Segev Forest. Along the way there were a variety of strategically placed surprises to greet participants. Some included, Natasha the Belly Dancer, Veronica the harp player, the Jack Margolin Jazz Band, Ti Chi instructors, and nature guides from the Jewish National Fund. Also along the two routes was an exhibit of various photographs and paintings created by area residents.
