A delegation of 10 teens from karmiel, students in grades 10-11, visited Pittsburgh to take an active role in Memorial Day and Independence Day events sponsored by the city's local Jewish Community. The Jewish Agency/Partnership 2000 and Karmiel Community Center jointly sponsored the delegation.
Tommer Hoffman, Director of the youth Department at Karmiel Community Center and Lilach Vaxman Rana, led the delegation.
The young people brought a youthful and refreshing Israeli spirit to Pittsburgh's schools, synagogues and community centers. They performed an "Israel Independence Day" performance in the city's Jewish day schools before students and pupils grades 4-12 and various area synagogues.

The visit's highlight undoubtedly was the community's Memorial Day event, led by the delegation. The evening included a variety of dance, song, poetry and dramatic segments.
The next day, Israel's 59th Independence Day the community gathered for a giant happening at the city's Mellon Park. There the delegation performed before an audience of an estimated 5,000 with a colorful performance.
The delegation received a positive and enthusiastic response from members of the community who were highly impressed by the professional manner in which they were prepared, their talented performances, excellent English and the authentic Israeli spirit that came across so wonderfully during this visit.
