Thirteen women from Michigan and 12 of their counterparts from the Central Galilee discussed common women's issues when a Michigan delegation visited Israel in January for a week. The delegation met with a variety of Central Galilee women - businesswomen, politicians, new immigrants, single mothers and women who were subjected to abuse by their husbands. In a seminar focusing on empowerment, women from both sides realized that they faced many of the same challenges.
Led by Kathy Wilson-Fink and Barbara Newman Zack, the delegation anticipates developing joint projects to benefit women in both communities. A visit by the Israelis to Michigan is scheduled for March. "The Detroit women serve as excellent role models," said Ruth Sela of Nazareth Illit. "I hope our return visit to Detroit will give us good insight into their community and help us further our personal ties."
