Who here isn't familiar with Daniel and Harrison?—two Michigan students who arrived in Israel for a year of volunteering as part of the Otzma program.  When the two came to the region they chose, from among the options offered them, to work with students at schools and help them reinforce their knowledge of English.

The two students came in December with a simple request: "We want to help everyone we possibly can."  And that's exactly what's happening.  Since they've been here, the two lads have been methodically visiting Rogozin School at eight in the morning twice a week.  For three months they've done this, reporting for work full of energy and enthusiasm.

They worked with students in classrooms and at the school's English Center, sometimes teaching groups and sometimes individual students.

Daniel and Harrison encountered a diverse population of students from grades 7–12 and at various learning levels.  They helped 12th graders prepare for an oral exam, advanced weaker students in the area of reading comprehension, and provided a response for exceptional students in need of a mental challenge extending beyond the classroom level.

In the course of their work, the Michigan volunteers developed a warm relationship with the students, who actually sought them out, even during recess and free periods!

The boys developed friendly relations with the school’s teaching staff, engaging in numerous conversations on Israel and society.  In all of their contacts with local residents, Daniel and Harrison displayed a special, warm and positive attitude towards Israeli society and the difficulties it faces.

Daniel and Harrison: Your endearing personalities, your perseverance, and your decision to take action and contribute have presented students with a model for action and social commitment worthy of emulation.  Kol Hakavod!
