But we can also observe that the crisis actually begins well before the first misdeed is committed. At the initial stage, a minor, barely discernible crevice is chiseled into the child's pure thoughts. As the crack gets bigger, the child gradually grows to view the Torah lifestyle as a waste of time, and the outside world of spiritual emptiness as beautiful. The most minor accident can make that first dent, and even the child's teachers and closest friends may not initially note any changes in behavior. But as the fissure spreads it overcomes the child's soul and infects the body, until he leaves the path of the Almighty with a mighty boom, heaven forbid.
